Academia September Holiday Programmes 2026

Academia’s September Holiday Programmes for 2026 are now open for registration. These focused 2- and 3-day programmes offer students dedicated time to work on the craft of writing, from the foundations of characterisation to the more exacting demands of structure, judgement and expression. Refined over more than a decade, each module draws on our students’ achievements, developments in education and Academia’s own curriculum research. Considered in scope and purposeful in design, they offer a worthwhile way to spend the school holidays—with progress that extends well beyond them.

George’s Marvellous Medicine: Fundamentals Writing and Tableau Workshop

Every memorable story begins with a character worth knowing.

In this two-day Writing & Tableau Workshop, our lower-primary students will learn to give their creations depth and dimension—exploring how thoughts, feelings and motivations shape the people who inhabit their stories. Through guided storytelling and expressive tableau exercises, they will come to see that great writing begins with empathy.

With a focus on characterisation and imaginative expression, students will discover how to transform understanding into artistry—translating emotion and insight into writing that feels alive. It is a brief workshop, but a remarkable introduction to the craft of storytelling.

WRITING 101
Values and Virtues: A Composition Module

Compassion, honesty, kindness, generosity. From fables to fairy tales, bildungsromans to science fiction, values and virtues have been central elements in storytelling since the dawn of time. Stories inspire us to be better versions of ourselves, placing us in the shoes of courageous heroes, loyal friends and gentle supporters.

Values and virtues are recurring themes in primary-school composition writing too. Students must imagine the challenges faced by their characters and the paths that are open to them. This module will cover situations in which these virtues are demonstrated and exemplified with just the right touch. Conducted as a workshop, students will produce three well-crafted stories by the end of the module.

Everday Experiences: A Composition Module

Everyday experiences are the fabric of our lives—and of the PSLE syllabus itself. This module revisits three classic themes with a sharp focus on productive writing and effective time management in examination settings. Students will explore the finer distinctions of narrative, descriptive and reflective writing, refining their ability to express the subtleties of daily life with precision, sensitivity and grace.

Through a series of thoughtfully designed exercises and writing prompts, they will learn to transform ordinary moments into eloquent, compelling compositions—capturing the extraordinary within the everyday, all within the discipline of timed writing.

For Primary 5 and Primary 6 students

$200 incl. GST
