Academia Summer Holiday Programmes

Academia’s June Holiday Programmes for 2025 are now open for registration. These short, focused programmes — ranging from 2-day workshops to 3-day symposiums—are designed to help students tackle the most challenging areas of the English syllabus, especially in writing. Since the launch of our holiday workshops a decade ago, each module has been carefully refined and updated every year, drawing on our students’ achievements, global education trends, and our own research. These aren’t just holiday activities—they are academic investments with tangible outcomes.

This year, as part of the Tanglin Collective, we’re pleased to offer our holiday programmes at our new Coronation location, alongside our partners. If you’re looking for PSLE Mathematics and English in one central location, look no further. Genius Plus Academy specialises in Primary and Secondary Mathematics, with a proven approach that has helped thousands of students grow in confidence and improve their results. The centre was co-founded by Mrs. Eileen Toh, an NIE-trained MOE ex-teacher and textbook writer, and Mr. JY Wong, a Math Olympiad Gold medialist, top student, and NIE-trained MOE ex-teacher.

WRITING 003
A Storyteller’s Journey: Navigating through the Story Structure

The early primary school years are a pivotal time for younger students to gain strong writing skills and cultivate positive attitudes towards writing, to develop important cognitive and creative abilities that are essential for success in school.

This 3-day workshop focuses on understanding the key elements that make up a compelling story. Through a series of guided exercises and group discussions, the students will gain a deeper understanding on the basic components of a story, such as characters, setting, plot, conflict and resolution. They will learn techniques that help them organise their thoughts and ideas, and produce a coherent and structured narrative, incorporating storylines and ideas from renowned fairy tales.

This workshop provides an opportunity for students to build their foundation and become familiar with the skeleton of story-writing that will prepare them for the intricacies of composition writing. At the end of the workshops, students will be able to identify the main idea and the structural components of a story, in order to compare and contrast different stories based on their structure and elements. Through this learning process, they will create their own stories with a clear beginning, middle and end.

WRITING 101
Values and Virtues: A Composition Module

Compassion, honesty, kindness, generosity. From fables to fairy tales, bildungsromans to science fiction, values and virtues have been central elements in storytelling since the dawn of time. Stories inspire us to be better versions of ourselves, placing us in the shoes of courageous heroes, loyal friends, and gentle supporters.

Values and virtues are recurring themes in primary school composition writing too. Students must imagine the challenges faced by their characters, and the paths that are open to them. This module will cover situations in which aforesaid virtues are demonstrated and exemplified with just the right touch. Conducted as a workshop, students will have produced three well-crafted stories by the end of the module.

WRITING 203
A Writer’s Tools: Narrative Structure and Descriptive Techniques

Composition writing in upper primary can be challenging because it requires students to write longer and more structured compositions, use a wider range of vocabulary, and develop a deeper understanding of narrative structure, organization, and descriptive language. Additionally, upper primary students are often required to write compositions on a variety of topics, which can be unfamiliar and require research and critical thinking skills.

This 2-day writing workshop is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the basic elements of each part of the story curve. Students will learn how to establish a story introduction with character backstory and setting description, build suspense in the rising action and climax, and flesh out the falling action and conclusion for a well-rounded story.

We go beyond the basics of narrative structure to teach students how to use descriptive techniques to bring their stories to life. With a focus on upgrading their vocabulary, students will learn to vividly describe emotions, dialogue, and actions. They will also learn how to paint a picture with their words and create a world that readers will want to immerse themselves in. Through personalized feedback and constructive criticism, we will help students develop their unique writing style and become confident and skilled writers.

PSLE English Mock Examination

In the lead-up to the PSLE, students often face uncertainty in navigating the full scope of the English paper—from grammar accuracy to situational and continuous writing. With fewer formal exams in schools, students have fewer opportunities to experience the flow, timing, and demands of the real paper. This mock exam programme bridges that gap by providing structured, authentic practice in a high-support setting.

PSLE Mathematics Mock Examinations

As the PSLE approaches, it becomes increasingly important for students to gain exposure to the rigours of full-length assessments. With schools conducting fewer formal exams, many students lack the opportunity to experience realistic exam conditions—crucial for developing exam strategies, managing time effectively, and building resilience.

This 2-session mock exam programme offers students a valuable opportunity to sit for two full PSLE-format math papers, carefully curated to reflect trends from recent years. Each script is graded by experienced tutors, and students will receive detailed feedback alongside comprehensive PDF solutions. Through this process, students can identify key gaps in their understanding, sharpen their problem-solving skills, and walk into the PSLE with greater confidence, clarity, and control.

PSLE Mathematics Ten Year Series Programme

Topical revision and mock drills are only half the battle—many students struggle to make full use of Ten-Year Series (TYS) papers due to lack of structure and feedback. This 10-session programme offers a guided walkthrough of every PSLE English Paper 1 and Paper 2 from 2015 to 2024, ensuring students systematically complete all key components under expert supervision.

With live online lessons, unlimited access to recordings, and graded digital submissions, students benefit from continuous support and timely feedback. PDF solutions are delivered after each class for independent review, and all work is neatly tracked in a dedicated exercise book. Designed with MOE assessment trends in mind, the programme focuses on clarity and consistency—making it ideal for students of all levels looking to consolidate exam skills with confidence and rigour.
