Academia’s IP English and Language Arts tuition programme develops the critical reading, literary analysis, argumentation, and academic writing skills expected of Integrated Programme students.

 

For Year 1 and Year 2 students, our Level 3A and Level 3B classes build foundations in close reading, interpretation, narrative and descriptive-reflective writing, and early argumentation. For Year 3 and Year 4 students, our Level 4 IP classes strengthen critical response, discursive and argumentative writing, and the disciplined academic habits needed for senior IP work.

 

Developed fully in-house, the curriculum is designed for the demands of IP schools in Singapore, with a clear progression from Lower Secondary Language Arts to upper-secondary IP English, General Paper, and university-level study.

What Is IP English and Language Arts Tuition?

IP English vs.
O Level English

In the Integrated Programme (IP), students bypass the O Level examinations and move towards the A Level or the IB Diploma. As a result, many IP schools place earlier emphasis on analysis, interpretation, and academic writing. IP English tuition supports students with stronger argumentation, more demanding reading and inference, and clearer organisation of ideas, so they can perform well in school-based assessments and build the foundations needed for the General Paper or IB English later on.

What Is Language
Arts?

In many IP schools, English Language and Literature are intertwined in the lower secondary years, in cases even integrated into a single subject. Students are expected to read closely across literary and non-literary texts, notice how language creates meaning and effect, and write with evidence and structure. Our Level 3A and Level 3B Language Arts classes train these integrated skills: close reading, interpretation and disciplined writing. This helps students stay aligned with school-based assessments while preparing for the increased demands that come later in the IP track.

Transition Pathway: IP English → GP → University

Our integrated programme English classes are structured to build progressively across the four IP years. In Years 1 and 2, students establish foundations in reading precision, writing control, and early argumentation. In Years 3 and 4, students work with more complex texts and sharpen their ability to evaluate ideas, structure arguments, and write under time pressure, creating a clear runway into the A Level General Paper, IB English, and university-style academic thinking.

Both my kids only joined academia when they were in P6. They attended other tuitions previously but their progress were stuck in AL3. With Academia excellent Teachers and top notch lessons and materials, my girl managed to have a breakthrough, her result improved to AL2 then AL1 for first time for her prelim. My boy’s English has a tremendous improvement as well. His result was always fluctuate in the past. After he attended Academia, his result was getting better and more consistent. My child joined Academia during his P6 Term 1. Just over the few months till the PSLE, we noticed the great improvement he has achieved in his English language and how much he has benefited from the tuition, especially in composition writing.

Kudos to Mr Johann Loh and the assistant teacher! Mr Johann Loh is very professional and dedicated to his students. I am also very impressed by the syllabus and contents that Academia has put together for P6 students.

Our girls have been attending classes in Academia for years. The teachers are highly qualified and driven. They are passionate and take pride in their work. On many occasions, they have spent time helping our girls in class and after class. Never failed to answer any questions we had.
