June Competitive Training – Mid-Year Performance Review

As part of our continued efforts to deliver meaningful academic progress, we are proud to introduce this year’s June Competitive Training: Mid-Year Performance Review sessions. These special cohort classes, included as part of your Term 2 classes, are designed as an academic checkpoint, providing students with a structured opportunity to consolidate learning, simulate real examination conditions, and receive targeted feedback—all within a supportive, guided environment.
Mock examinations are only as effective as the insights they reveal, and too often, students sit through practices without understanding how to improve. Our June Competitive Training classes bridge that gap with carefully structured exam simulations, targeted skills training, and actionable feedback that primes students for top performance.
Beyond drills and diagnostics, what sets this programme apart is its emphasis on exam literacy, the ability to understand what questions truly demand, how marks are allocated, and how examiners distinguish between average and excellent. Students are trained not just to answer, but to anticipate and adapt, to identify patterns in question types, and to avoid common errors that cost disproportionately.
Each level will participate in assessments tailored to their curriculum and cognitive development. These sessions are not just practice tests; they are purposefully designed diagnostic tools that allow us to evaluate performance, identify learning gaps, and fine-tune our teaching approach for each child. Here’s what students can expect at each stage of their academic journey:
Level 0A and 0B
Primary 1 and 2 students
Our youngest learners will take part in a mini-assessment that evaluates their grasp of core grammar concepts introduced this year. To complement this, students will engage in a free-writing activity, choosing a topic from a curated list and writing a short paragraph. These activities encourage authentic self-expression and provide valuable insight into language development—without overwhelming young writers.
Duration:
3-hour session
Level 1A and 1B
Primary 3 and 4 students
Students will complete adjusted versions of Paper 1 and Paper 2 that reflect the growing demands of upper primary English, while remaining developmentally appropriate. The goal is to build early familiarity with the structure and expectations of exam-style writing and comprehension.
Duration:
3-hour session
Level 2A and 2B
Primary 5 and 6 students
For PSLE 2025, Primary 6 students this year will experience competitive training for the entire PSLE English examination: Paper 1, Paper 2, Listening Comprehension, and Orals. The perfectly pitched papers are designed to replicate national standards. Individual Orals sessions during the holidays help students develop the confidence and clarity needed for an increasingly crucial aspect of the paper. These sessions will give teachers the essential data to offer critical last-mile support in Term 3.
Primary 5 students will experience Paper 1 and 2, with the other two papers available as an add-on.
Duration:
3.5-hour session for Paper 1 and Paper 2
45-minute session for Listening Comprehension
45-minute 1-1 Orals sessions
Level 3A
Secondary 1 / Year 1 Language Arts students
Students will sit for two papers, covering Editing, Essay, Visual Text, and Narrative Comprehension, mimicking the format of their school assessments. A feedback period will follow, allowing for guided review and clarification, helping students better understand where they stand and how to improve.
Duration:

Level 3B
Secondary 2 / Year 2 Language Arts / Year 1 and 2 IB students
At this level, students will be challenged with the full range of components found in typical end-of-year papers: Editing, Essay, Visual Text, Narrative, and Expository Comprehension. These mock exams are structured to reflect upper secondary standards, ensuring students are ready for the academic transition to the next stage.
Duration:

Level 4 IP
Year 3 and 4 Integrated Programme students
Students in the Integrated Programme track will undertake a comprehensive mock examination that mirrors their school’s internal assessments. The session includes Paper 1 and Paper 2, covering critical writing and comprehension components, with structured timing to simulate actual exam conditions. This setup ensures students are equipped with the skills, stamina, and strategic awareness required to meet the demands of their rigorous academic programme.
Duration:

Level 4 O Levels
Secondary 3 and 4 O Level students
Students in the O Level track will participate in a mock examination designed to closely reflect the format and intensity of the national exams. Secondary 3 and 4 students will complete Paper 1 (Editing, Situational Writing, and Continuous Writing) and Paper 2 (Visual Text, Narrative, and Expository Comprehension), over a 4-hour session, with a break structured into the schedule to maintain focus.
Secondary 4 students will additionally attend a session for Listening Comprehension, followed by a guided review of answers, as well as 1-1 Orals sessions. This full suite of assessments allows students to build exam endurance and receive detailed feedback essential for final-stage preparation.
Duration:
4-hour session for Paper 1 and Paper 2
1-hour session for Listening Comprehension
45-minute 1-1 Orals session
Level 5 General Paper
Junior College 1 and Junior College 2 students
Students at the JC level will sit for full-length General Paper examinations — Paper 1 (Essay) and Paper 2 (Comprehension) — designed to reflect the rigour and expectations of the A-Level syllabus. These assessments aim to sharpen students’ argumentation, critical analysis, and comprehension skills under timed conditions.
Students may choose to take Paper 1 and Paper 2 on separate days for greater focus, or complete both on the same day with a 1-hour break between papers. This flexibility ensures students can engage fully with each component while still experiencing the structure and pressure of a real exam setting.
Duration:
Two 1.5-hour sessions
Level 5 International Baccalaureate
Year 5 and Year 6 International Baccalaureate students
IB students will take part in full-length mock examinations designed to mirror the demands of the official assessments. The session will provide students with valuable practice in managing time, structuring arguments, and refining analytical precision. Language and Literature students will complete both Paper 1 and Paper 2 under timed conditions. Paper 1 will test their ability to analyse unseen texts, while Paper 2 will assess their comparative essay writing skills based on their studied literary works.
Pure Literature students will receive individually tailored materials and essay prompts based on their current texts and coursework. These personalised materials ensure that students can hone their analytical techniques and writing strategies in a context directly relevant to their school’s expectations.
